Frequently Asked Questions

Got Questions? We’ve Got Answers!

Pain management is the care and treatment of pain — whether it’s short-term, after an injury, or long-lasting chronic pain. At Capitol Pain Institute in Austin (North), our doctors take the time to understand your unique situation and create a treatment plan that works for you.

We use a wide range of options, starting with the most conservative and moving to more advanced treatments if needed. This may include physical therapy, targeted injections, minimally invasive procedures, or medications when appropriate. Our goal is simple: to reduce your pain, improve your function, and help you get back to living your life.

It may be time to see a pain management doctor if pain is lasting longer than expected, not improving with basic treatments, or interfering with your daily life. If pain keeps you from working, sleeping, exercising, or enjoying the activities you love, a pain specialist can help.

You should also consider seeing a pain doctor if:
1. Pain has become chronic (lasting 3 months or more).
2. Over-the-counter medications or rest aren’t providing enough relief.
3. You want to explore options beyond surgery or long-term medication.
4. You’ve tried other treatments without success.

No referral is needed to see us at CPI. You can schedule directly with our pain management team, who will work with you to create a treatment plan tailored to your needs. Simply reach out to book an appointment or ask any questions about our services — we’re here to help.

CPI accepts all major insurance companies as well as Medicare and Medicaid. For questions regarding specific treatments or procedures, please call your insurance carrier to check if there are any out-of-pocket expenses or if a referral is required.

For your first appointment at CPI, please plan to arrive about 15 minutes early to complete our new patient paperwork. The visit usually takes 30–45 minutes. During that time, we’ll review your medical history, talk through your symptoms, and begin creating a treatment plan that’s right for you.

Occasionally, our schedule runs a little behind as we give each person the time they need, and we appreciate your understanding if this happens during your visit.

At CPI, we believe the best way to manage chronic pain is through a complete care approach — not just medication. Research shows that combining treatments such as advanced procedures and physical therapy provides better results while reducing the need for opioids. By looking at the whole picture, we can improve your overall health and offer safer, longer-lasting options for pain relief tailored to your needs.
